I'm crazy about Luxor: Amun Rising. A simple, clean game. Unlike the other Luxor games, it's not all busy screen/bells and whistles. I don't need the visually overwhelming artwork - I'm 'over-the-hill' and my eyes work hard enough, as it is.

Maybe Luxor 5 could be Luxor: Amun Rising 2.

Yeah, I am inclined to agree that the art is becomming too much. Ive tried Luxor 3 and Luxor quest for the afterlife. Luxor 3 is far more clean and streamlined. Way too much unneeded graphics in luxor quest like the flashy sundisc animation filling the screen between the map. Just too much and overwhelming. The simple design of Zuma which the series is based on should not be forgotten, dont overwhelm the player with so many flashy effects that it takes away from the core gameplay.

Ive tried out Luxor 1 and 2 now. 2 was quite forgettable, but I quite like the clean and vibrant artstyle in Luxor 1. Making the balls seem 3dimensional and easilly spotted. Just a pity that you dont get custom cursors in luxor 1, or an indicator where the ball is going to land. If Luxor 1 had that it would easilly rate the best.

Interesting discussion. We have actually had the same exact discussions here. I don't know what the next Luxor will look like, but I did want you to know that we are constantly re-evaluating the direction and certainly welcome this type of feedback from our players. R

Well since we are giving suggestions for the new version of Luxor... my two cents would be similar to these, sometimes the flashy colors etc make the play difficult though I must admit that over all I didn't have a hard time with QFTA.
I was however greatly disappointed in the puzzle mode, much to easy and too few puzzles...
I do like the global statistics given (when they work - I say that because in QFTA I have a global catch of 0% and that just can't be right.)
I also like the awards or achievements when we know what to strive for. In Luxor 3 you were at least told by pointing at the blank spot.
Either way keep up the good work, I am sure that the next version will be well received.

Welp, the results of the poll are definitely in favor of a Luxor 5 for the next game, and I'm waitin'! I love the Luxor series of marble poppers - they're my favorite games! Get crankin' on v5 you guys, and keep up the great work!

    Couple of comments on Lux4:

Global Catch Accuracy doesn't work...it ALWAYS says 0%

Bring back more of the Puzzle Mode, please ;-) There were 42 in Lux3, and only 20 in Lux4. It would be great if it were a different 20 in each difficulty level.

Lux4 never seems to "end". Once you've made it through Haton, you are taken to the credits and all seems done. When you fire up the game next time though, the option to "continue adventure" is still available. At that point, the game should start afresh at the next skill level. I mean, I've looked and played awhile longer but see no good reason to continue a game once you get through Hotan...Nefertiti tells us that to win the game we have to get the 4 jars and defeat Thutmose, so what's the point of continuing? It's a little confusing when you choose to start a new adventure at a harder level and the game says "are you sure you want to wipe out your old adventure" (or something like that)...I mean, it's over, ain't it?!?

Continuity Question 2: Under my current player, I have completed the game once in all four difficulty levels. At each difficulty level, I trekked the *entire* silk road and all byways and played one puzzle campaign (for a total of 4 times). I'm just wondering why I didn't get these 4 achievements: Defender, Riddle/Sphinx, River Crossing, and Revealer of Secrets? There was NOWHERE else to go!

It was a blast to play...my end score was 86,263,810, 93% global accuracy, 7,000+ leftover coins (after buying out the store) and (ugh!) total time of 29:52:45. I'm replaying Luxor 3 with renewed interest now.

Thanks for a truly addictive and fun popper. It was a great 30 hours man! (Although I expect some sort of repetitive motion finger disorder after having fired 42,011 shots ;-)

I can't wait to see how you all push the marble popper genre even further...Hail Luxor 5!!!

"Lux4 never seems to 'end'." If you get the three thieves, you can head straight for the final city. One school of thought might be that some people might feel cheated if they only take the North route and beat the game. So they're giving you the option to go back to travel the roads to achieve the "currently unachievable" :-) -- all river crossings, etc.

Personally, I don't do well with the puzzles so I'm glad they're separate. But that's just me.

I would love to go back to Luxor 3 or Amun Rising. Loved the puzzles in between. No more bright lights in between levels would be nice. Also the bright light when you get I believe it is the slow special, you can't see the color of the balls unless you buy more time for that particular option. Still trying to get the 3rd and 4th jars even though it looks like I have gone to every city on the map and have no more sun disks. However keep up the Luxor series, still love them the best of all!!

I would love to hear the community's thoughts on this. Did we get too fancy with Luxor 4 (even Luxor 3)?

I think Luxor 3 is the best. I like the puzzles in between levels. I also like the store option. I also enjoy the achievement awards especially when I'm playing against my husband and I have more than he does. Just keep the Luxor's not so bright like Quest is. It seems like most of us love the game but don't need the extra animations with it. Also if the animations take up too much time in between levels, you are wasting the trial time of possible new players so they don't get as good an idea whether they wanna jump on the Luxor bandwagon cause the trial time runs out faster without them having a good idea of game play.

Since my last post above, I went back and played v3, v1, and amun rising. I love the Luxor series, and thought that I liked v4 the best, then v3... Having gone back and played v1 & Amun Rising, I noted that although they were not as visually striking as the later ones, they were ultimately more fun because they're harder and a greater challenge. Some other guys said this and I disagreed then, but replaying the older ones made me reconsider.
Still, the graphics and sounds simply kick in 3 and 4, and we can't go back 3 or 4 years.

There must be some way to have our cake and eat it too!

Whatever MJ decides, I eagerly await Lux 5! Bring it on people!

P.S. Two other points: the "old" color bomb sound of version 2 (vista) needs to be brought back! It sounds like a big, wet ball of slime hitting a concrete wall, and fits the weapon perfectly. Please bring it back! and, if Lux 5 has a big story line like Lux4, PLEASE include an option to skip cutscenes. After you've seen them a couple of times, they only serve to hold up the gameplay.

Thanks to MJ for listening to we Luxor fanatics!

    Totally addicted to luxor!!!

I have to agree that the lights before and after every game are getting on my nerves. Ithink that you should have a battle going into every city even if you have already been there. It helps to add variety while playing. When you exit the game the save mode is not working properly. I have had to start a new game twice now because I exitted once while the thief was out and once when I had not used the Sun Disc yet and lost them both. I worked hard to be able to buy the nicest shooter because I thought that it would have extra powers or wing span or something. I was disappointed when it didn't. I love the graphics!

Looking forward to the next Luxor :-]

Biggest wish for Luxor 5: More Puzzles, More Puzzles! I love those things... a different & increasingly difficult set of 25 for each difficulty level of play would totally rock. I'd love to have an SDK to try my hand at writing them too ;-)

    Monique:

Where did you purchase Luxor 4? If from MJ (or retail store), there are updates posted @ http://www.mumbojumbo.com/games/LUXOR%3A_Quest_for_the_Afterlife which might help you. If you got it elsewhere, (BigFish, etc.) re-download/install it - they may have the update too. I plugged in the latest and now all the Achievements are awarded - I had no other issues.

The extra shooters and ball sets are mostly for status only. I once complained that they offered nothing but eye/ear candy, which is kind of true, but it also shows that you are good enough to "waste" your coins on affectations, especially if you acquire them _before_ fully upgrading weapons ;-). I have come to enjoy earning them! Especially the ball sets, because they alter the game's sound in a cool way. I alter between the Energy & Wood sets.

Also, I don't remember but you may need to buy everything in the store to get the Powerups achievement.

BTW, the Xtreme shooter you mentioned *does* have a little more wingspan than the other two - and it just looks badder ;-)

Lux 3 is my fav for general gameplay , akin to gameplay simplicity of Lux2 but deeper graphics and a store. Have no prob with the great artwork in 3 or QFAL and want even more detail. The fire or bright lights become a memory challenge, if you view it that way, adding difficulty.

That center thingie protruding onto board bottom really has to go as it obscures next ball.

As mentioned in another post, once you buy the store theres no more use for ank coins. In Lux 2 u earned more lives and could lose the game which to me was more useful as a gamer. A thought is, why can't we do both?

Go back to Lux2 ank concept plus use excess to expand powerups. It may take much longer but anybody who owns this on a given player name will eventually attain all items...make it tougher...

Some new powerups be nice too, like a wipe board similar to sandstorm but awarded after maybe 20 combos. Try as i might i cannot see any use at all for the colour replacer, its useless.

On Lux 3 the end level bonus session ( treasure hunt?) is great but not avaliable to practice in free play...thats so good it could be a mini game and if you have looked at plants vrs zombies mini games, something in that format would be a great addon to Luxor.

    thanks

Luxor 3 is by far my favourite. I find too much story line in Luxor 4 and that whiney voice of the Queen! I don't need her comments every time I hit the scarab for coins. Also each difficulty level should have some differences besides ball colours and more and different things to help like sandstorm. Once we have heard the story we don't need it again or should be able to skip the repetitive bits. Once I have completed a leavel I don't need the screen to fog over and remind me every time I finish a series of games to go to Hotan. I know this. Suggestions for Luxor 5. If possible have some significant differences to the story or plot or new games at each difficulty level. More puzzles, and I always get the message "A new store item has been unlocked" long after I have unlocked and purchased everything. How about sneaking in some new store levels at the harder levels.

Guys, the new Luxor Adventures game is the 5th Luxor. The next upcoming luxor (hopefully 2010) would be Luxor 6. Has anyone played Luxor Adventures yet because no body is commenting on it. Plus I have an excellent idea for the next Luxor. I don't know if its possible to create, but you'll find it in my new post called "Excellent idea for the 6th Luxor game."

Since you asked, reinspruch....I have been hugely disappointed with Luxor Adventures! Lame non-story, very hard to see hidden objects in such dark scenes, mystifying choices and redundance of hidden objects, no difficulty in classic luxor mode, match 3 lacks lustre as well. I'm sorry that I wasted 20 bucks on it and in addition to that it gave me luxor 3 which I already had. (and playing that again rmeinded me that it was the last good luxor that there was!) :(

Technically LUXOR Adventures is # 6: LUXOR, LUXOR: Amun Rising, LUXOR 2, LUXOR 3, LUXOR: Quest for the Afterlife, LUXOR Adventures and......? LUXOR: MahJong!

So a new LUXOR would be #7 but I used the term #5 since it would be the fifth marble-popper (not counting LUXOR: MahJong or LUXOR Adventures).

If we made a new game, which game should it most closely resemble? LUXOR / LUXOR: Amun Rising, LUXOR 2, LUXOR 3 or LUXOR: Quest for the Afterlife? All four of those games have a different look and feel. Your comments are wanted and welcome!

I'd say that it could resemble Luxor 3 or QFTA because the levels are the most creative and 3D in those 2 games. I'd wonder that if a future Luxor could be one where you can create your own levels (build your own paths and place the pyramid anywhere and then play the level like classic Luxor). I don't know if that's possible to make, but if the Luxor series ever came to a close (hopefully it won't), a game like that would be a good final Luxor game or it could be a game mode. Luxor 3, 4, and Adventures also don't have limited chances (lives) to pass a level/stage like the earlier ones do. Make sure it stays that way. Also, maybe the orbs and the powerups could look different than in Luxor 3 and 4. Those are the changes, but the orbs would always have to go to a pyramid and the music would always have to change when the orbs get closer to the pyramid (Luxor Adventures didn't do that). I know that that is not the point of the game and no one would care about those little things too much, but that's what I'm used to. I can't wait to see what MJ comes up with this time. This Luxor could look totally different than all the other ones. You never know. Tell me what you think of any of these ideas, please. I love Luxor and would like to hear what everyone else out there thinks. Hope the new game comes out this year!
