  1.

If you purchased the RETAIL CD of Luxor: Quest For The Afterlife and are having issues, please see the link below to download an update.

    http://forum.mumbojumbo.com/downloads/LuxorUpdate.exe

Once downloaded, install the update over your exising installation of Luxor: Quest For The Afterlife. This will remove all previous saved data to ensure that it does not conflict with the installation of the update. Once installed, start your game normally and when prompted, create a new user profile and resume gaming!

Please let us know if this addresses your issue, and if you need any assistance on installation or support, do not hesitate to contact us at support@mumbojumbo.com.

After buying this game as soon as it came out, I found that it would freeze after attempting to play. Then I wait for what seems to be an eternity for tech support to contact me. THEN wait for a patch to fix the game. They finally get a patch, which I download and low and behold....the game STILL does not work. Absolutely unbelievable!

    Hi Jeff,

It's possible that your computer either cannot handle the demands of Luxor, or that your drivers are simply out of date. At any rate, please send an email to us at support@mumbojumbo.com and we'll get to it as soon as possible. So that it can more quickly be identified, place "Attn: Josh" in the subject line so that I know it's yours. If you've already sent one, we'll be addressing it in the near future.

  4.
The details of the error message I get are (same as before installing the update)

    AppName: luxorquestfortheafterlife.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: dsound.dll
    ModVer: 5.3.2600.5512 Offset: 0000d6b9

@jeffsilver: see the post below for the solution to your problem. This is a sound driver issue and can be resolved by changing the DirectX Sound settings on your system.

************************************************ RESOLVING SOUND RELATED SYSTEM CRASH *****************************************************

If your version of Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife is randomly crashing with an Unknown Error the problem may be a sound driver issue on your computer.

If the details of the error specify dsound.dll then is is definitely a sound driver issue.

Here is the procedure for overcoming this problem (these are for Windows XP):

    1. Click Start, Run.

    2. Type DxDiag and click OK.

    3. If you are prompted to verify drivers, it is up to you whether you want to do this or not, though it isn't a bad idea.

    4. Click the Sound tab.

    5. Move the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level slider to the left so that it says No Acceleration.

    6. Try running the game. It should now run with no problems.

You may be able to use some hardward acceleration, but you will have to test the different setting on your computer to see. Basically, this means going back to DxDiag and moving the slider up a notch each time and then seeing if the game still runs wihout error.

    @william27:

The retail patch will not work on a system that has a downloaded version of the game. If you can't obtain a new version directly from Reflexive, then email us at support@mumbojumbo.com with your proof of purchase (e.g. an email from Reflexive) and we will help you obtain the newest version.

The current patch does not correct the issues you are refering to. We are currently evaluating which bugs are critical at this point and may produce an updated version in the near future.

I played the game again and got the third canopic jar. That ends the game for me unless I want to run around in circles. I see the jar but when I hit continue I am left with completed artifacts, disks with their power depleted and no place to go. The third jar never goes to the top of the screen after I get it. As I said before I downloaded the fix for purchased retail versions...apparently it isn't all fixed. Will there be another fix so that I might continue the game or should I request a refund?

Re: Retail version (purchased at Wal-Mart)

I played about 40% of the game, then saved. When I went back in, I was able to play one level, then the game locked up and Vista tried to find a solution (but didn't). When I restarted the game, I could play the next level then it locked up. I downloaded the retail patch linked above and installed it over the original game. Now the game won't even start. I get hundreds of pop-up errors referring to various lines of various files, then the 'Windows is trying to find a solution' window comes back up. I have over 100 games running just fine, including all previous versions of Luxor, so I don't think there's a problem with system performance.

Well.....I e-mailed support for help. Hopefully I get some kinda satisfactory resolution. I purchased the game from walmart sometime last week, made sure my laptop has the minimum requirements, then ran into a virtual memory error. I got that fixed, then I got that annoying "unhandled exception" error. So...after trolling around google search and yahoo search results, I come across this forum. And after visiting this forum and reading through 2 threads about practically the same problem with the game, whether downloaded or purchased, I downloaded the patch for the CD retail version. Ba-da-bing ba-da-boom......same issue. Nothing has been resolved. *sigh* -_-" ......... the only consolation I can find in all this is knowing I'm NOT the only one experiencing this problem.

I am hoping the cd I purchased won't end up as a coaster for drinks as I have lost the receipt while cleaning up around the house :(

I played the game on the medium difficulty level and it worked and I was able to finish the game. The game still does not function on the easy level and I have not tried the hard level. This was a Walmart copy that I updated with the link you provided for purchased copies. Obviously there are a few more flaws in the one I bought.

I've been out of town for 3 weeks and am now catching up on the forum posts. I have tagged our tech support department to see if they can review these posts and help try to resolve the situations.

Good news. I have just recieved clearance to pursue fixing as many of the Luxor: QFTA bugs as possible that related to canopic jars and theives.

    You can help!

If you are experiencing any of the folloing problems:

    • Unable to catch or see all of the thieves
    • Have caught all of  the thieves but don't have all of the canopic jars
    • Have caught all of the theives but the hidden path to Huton does not show up
    • ...or anything that sounds like one of these problems

The send me your profile. The profile on Windows XP is saved under: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\MumboJumbo\Luxor - Quest For The Afterlife/Profiles

I'm not sure of the exact path for Vista.

In the Profiles folder you will see a .prf file for each profile. Send me the profile that is having the problem. Also, please include a description of the particular situation you are experiencing. These profiles will be very helpful in helping me figure out the problem.

Send an information directly to: rmadsen@mumbojumbo.com

    Thanks.

Great news everyone. I am currently working on fixing the thief/canopic jar/sun disc issues in Luxor: Quest for the Afterlife. My guess is that a new build will be distributed early in April on the MumboJumbo website and also be distributed to all of our online partners. Stay tuned.

I haven't seen a new build available yet that fixes the issues, or am I looking in the wrong place. This is the page that this game's download page takes me to. Please let us know what is going on and if we are simply going to the wrong place.
    Thank you

Look at the top of this page. There's a link that you can click to download the latest version update.

If you have the download version from our website, then you already have the latest version. If you have it from another website, then you may not. Please contact us at support@mumbojumbo.com if you have a download version from another website.

I saw that link, however it is way before the last note in March of 2009 that says he is working on more fixes.
Do you mean that the additional fixes are complete and no-one said anything, they just assumed that everyone would know, or do i just not get it?

It's work after fixing my registry base. The game runs perfect.I'm finished 3 times on medium...grafic,sound,all options and stuff...works just fine.
Try with "Uniblue registry booster 2009" and "Uniblue SpeedMyPC 2009"....just scan and fix.
I don't install the patch and I didn't reinstall the game.
On dxdiag test-all perfect....sorry for my bad english :)

I am getting 3 errors when I play Luxor 4 Quest for the Afterlife. After playing a game I hear a ping the game freezes and I get 2 messages. "Unhandled exception" and "an unknown exception has occured". I am also getting a message that my virtual memory minimum is too low. Some games run at glacial slowness also and some run at normal speed. I never have any memory problems with other games including all the other Luxor games and 7 Wonders. I have a pentium 4 CPU 2.4 GHz 512 mbRAM, Win xp professional and direct X version 9.0c (4.09,000,0904) Any ideas??? Unless the patch is gtee'd to work I will not downlaod it as I only have dial up and it is slow.
    Thanks
